We ONLY spray when it is absolutely necessary to save our crop, we deal with disease and pests on a case-by-case basis. We only use products that are approved by the FDA for food and produce. Therefore, all our produce is safe to eat right out of the field. Normally spray fungicide before the bloom, that is it. We follow an Integrated Pest Management Plan as defined by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). This means we use a combination of pest control methods so that we limit our impact on the environment. We are a GAP certified through USDA. Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) audits are voluntary audits that verify that fruits and vegetables are produced, packed, handled, and stored to minimize risks of microbial food safety hazards.
Oregon Strawberries VS Nationwide Strawberries
Our local Strawberries are sweet, juicy, and red all the way through. They don't have a shelf life for more than a few days. We practice crop rotation every 2 to 3 years so the soil can receive nutrients naturally. Crop rotation also adds more organic material to our soil each year. We test the PH of our soil regularly so we know if we need to add more natural elements (such as lime or calcium) to help maintain our soil's health. The majority of strawberries in our nation are grown in other states. These fields are harvested year after year after year. They don't use crop rotation the same way we do, which could make their soil more prone to diseases.
No. We personally don’t feel the need for a third-party certificate to know that what we grow is nutritious, safe to eat, and delicious. We have grandchildren and lots of families that come out to U-pick, we strive to produce berries on our farm that you can pick and enjoy without worrying about harsh products that some commercial farmers use.
Every 2 or 3 years we rotate our strawberries, so the soil can get nutrients naturally.
